How we built it

Challenges

Planning normally means running three tools at once — a task list, a calendar and somewhere to keep notes — and paying the cost of moving between them. ByDesign set out to hold all three in one product, which puts real pressure on both the data model and the interface.

Our Process

This is a partnership rather than a fixed-scope build. We supply development capacity across their existing stack — Node.js on the service side, Next.js on the front end — and work inside their roadmap rather than delivering against a separate one of our own.

Solutions

Engineering on the features their team prioritises, across the same codebase and the same release cycle their in-house developers work in.

Results

A partnership that is still running, with our developers embedded in the ByDesign stack rather than handing over a finished piece of work and leaving.

What is ByDesign?

ByDesign is a planning product. It brings tasks, goals, calendars and notes together in one place, so the schedule, the work and the thinking behind it live in the same tool rather than being split across a to-do app, a calendar and a notes app.

What does DI Solutions do on ByDesign?

We are a development partner. DI Solutions supplies engineering capacity across their Node.js and Next.js stack — we do not own the product. ByDesign sets the direction and the roadmap; our developers build against it alongside their own team.

That distinction matters: this is a partnership, not a product we built and handed over.

What is ByDesign built with?

Node.js on the back end and Next.js on the front end. That pairing suits a planning product — server-rendered pages keep the calendar and task views fast to load, and a single JavaScript runtime across both tiers keeps the team small and the shipping cadence quick.

Is the ByDesign engagement still active?

Yes. The partnership is ongoing. We continue to supply Node.js and Next.js development capacity to the ByDesign team rather than having completed and closed the engagement.
