Developers supplied by DI Solutions

Dentsply Sirona

Dentsply Sirona is one of the largest manufacturers of professional dental products and technologies, and DI Solutions supplies development capacity to their team — working on DevTool, the cross-platform desktop utility their engineers use to discover, provision and diagnose dental devices.

What Dentsply Sirona does

The client

  • Professional dental products and technologies
  • One of the largest manufacturers in the sector
  • Global operation
  • Owns its own product direction

DevTool

  • Device discovery over mDNS, Bluetooth or a manual address
  • Provisioning, Wi-Fi, IP and DNS configuration
  • Telemetry, live logs and diagnostics
  • Local mock services for development without hardware
  • Packaged for Windows, macOS and Linux

Our contribution

  • Developers supplied to their team
  • Angular front end, NestJS services, Electron packaging
  • Staff augmentation, not a product build
  • Engagement is ongoing

Inside DevTool

DevTool's device discovery screen, with mDNS, Bluetooth and manual connection tabs above a found device showing its address, material and serial numbers, platform version and asset ID
The provisioning interface open over a connected device, showing provisioning state and bundle version above collapsed sections for Wi-Fi, IP, DNS and network probing
Live telemetry from a connected device, motor force and spindle speed readings listed per channel for the left and right motionboards
The log service streaming live entries, each row colour-coded by service and severity with its class, function, line and thread
The macros screen, showing grouped end-to-end scripts that can be run against a device over SSH

How we built it

Challenges

A manufacturer at this scale runs software alongside a hardware and devices business, and demand on the engineering side moves faster than permanent headcount can. Adding capacity without adding permanent hires — and without losing the internal standards the team already works to — is the constraint.

Our Process

We supply Node.js developers under a staff-augmentation engagement. They work inside Dentsply Sirona's team, to their priorities, their review process and their release cycle, rather than delivering a separate scope of our own.

Solutions

Additional back-end engineering capability available when the roadmap needs it, without the recruit-onboard-retain cycle of a permanent hire.

Results

An engagement that is still running. Dentsply Sirona keeps full ownership of its systems; we provide the Node.js capacity behind them.

Who is Dentsply Sirona?

Dentsply Sirona is one of the largest manufacturers of professional dental products and technologies in the world. Its business spans dental equipment and the technology that supports dental practices and laboratories.

What does DI Solutions do for Dentsply Sirona?

We supply development capacity to their team, working on DevTool — the desktop utility their engineers use to connect to and diagnose dental devices. This is a staff-augmentation engagement: our developers work inside Dentsply Sirona's own team, and Dentsply Sirona retains ownership of the product and the direction.

We did not build Dentsply Sirona's products. Our role is the engineering capacity, not the ownership.

What technology does the engagement cover?

An Angular front end, a NestJS backend exposing REST, WebSocket and gRPC services, and an Electron wrapper that ships the tool as a Windows, macOS and Linux desktop application. The work spans the whole of that stack rather than a single layer of it.

Is the Dentsply Sirona engagement still active?

Yes. The engagement is ongoing. We continue to supply development capacity to their team rather than having completed and closed the work.
